Reunited and it feels so good || Rita & Dodger

ritas-streetsofgold:

Rita laughed and shook her head at his question. “A new gang? Heh is that sum kind of sick joke Dodge?” She leaned and pressed her head to his one last time, it always felt good to catch up with old close friends. Especially when that friend was Dodger. Sitting back she swayed her long brown bushy tail.

“Uh actually, I haven’t dun’ much runnin’ ‘round tha streets since I left.” she dropped her head slightly before casually stretching out her body and shrugged it off “I found a kid Dodge…” she trailed off slightly avoiding eye contact. This explained her long disappearance from the gang. “but doesn’t matta’ now. I’ve missed seein’ ya’ around.”

He shrugs, “Hey hey. Ya never know, sometimes people change. Things happen. It ain’t inconceivable Rita.” He was secretly glad she hadn’t found a new gang, left for good. He played it cool though, strutting around her, grinning at Rita.

“Ya haven’t, huh?” He asks, sounding surprised. At her next statement he trips and stumbles a bit, regaining his composure he looks at her. “Ya what?” He demands. How could she find a kid, abandoning Fagin, their gang, …him. “It does matter Rita. Whaddya think ya doin’? I mean, leavin’ an’ findin’ a kid?” He growls. Dodger breathes hard and sighs, calming down. “What’s tha kid like?” He asks in a tight voice. “How’d ya meet ‘em?”

Dodger watches Angel cautiously, seeing how she reacts to his question. He kept his face clear of emotion. “Yeah, I forgot ya don’t stay anywhere too long.” He grins and stretches a bit. “Well, I’m honored that ya felt tha’ need ta come an’ visit me.”

When she mentions that she didn’t plan on staying very long he hops off the bench. He shakes and stretches. “Well I’m glad ya won’t be crowdin’ my kingdom too long.” He lies. “But since ya here we might as well make tha’ best o’ it.”

“Course Dodge! Either that or I just missed hanging out with Tito,” she grinned teasingly. She did a quick  stretch on the bench before hopping off skillfully to land right next to him. “True,” she commented in reference to his offer. “I am the tourist in the big city, wanna show me the ropes then?”  she asked excitedly. She found the city life to be way more appealing than the small town version of New Haven, however, new city meant new skills and she wasn’t sure she could stay up.

He scowls at her and rolls his eyes. “Yeah, right. Tito. Cause he’s tha’ cool one.” He grins, “So, ya wanna real tour o’ tha’ city.” He wags his tail. “I’ll try an’ show ya tha’ ropes, but I dunno if ya can keep up with me kid. Ya are a country kid after all.” He smirks and wiggles his eyebrows. “I’ll try an’ take it slow on ya. At least this time.” He starts walking. “Anything ya wanna see first kid?”

He grins, watching her walk around. He’d almost forgotten just how cute she was, almost. He looks up at her, his tail wagging. “Ya want a welcome? Jus’ cause ya traveled from New Haven ta tha’ city?” He rolls his eyes, “Dames.” He gives a short bark of a laugh and hops up on the bench next to her. “But welcome back ta tha’ city kid.” He grins, “I’ll even go far as ta say I missed ya.” He tugs her ear gently. “So, ya stayin’ ‘round tha’ city permanently then?” He raises an eyebrow, trying to feign nonchalance at the question. He cared more than he was willing to admit.

“God, of course not!” she said finally finding the right spot before she finally sat down. Her mouth opened slightly, “You know I’m never one to stay in the same place for too long Dodge,” she chuckled. The truth was that Buster’s gang had found itself so insidiously into the pound and luckily Scamp’s parents bailed her out. She couldn’t however stay the same for them. Sure, Angel had tried the home life; the collar and baths before she was quickly eager to set herself back on the ground. Hopping a few freight trains and accompanying some random strangers, she found herself in the Dodge’s kingdom.

“Passing through of course,” she grinned. “Thought I’d pay the king a little visit after all!” she said sarcastically. “But don’t worry the kingdom’s yours forever, I’ll be outta here before ya know it.”

He lifts his head at the sound of her voice, surprised. “That couldn’t be… Nah.” He looks over and grins, his tail wagging. “Angel! Well hey hey now.” He hops off the bench and walks towards her. “So, how’s it hangin’? Ya miss tha’ king?” He winks and nudges her playfully. “An’ ya know I deserve a warm welcome babe, don’t play coy. It ain’t too cute.” He chuckles.

“Nahh,” she chuckled as she walked over to him. Her paws doing happy skip over. Before she was about to give him a proper greeting, she climbed up onto the bench he was on previously. “I think I should be asking that to me,” she smiled. “I mean after all, a pup like me came all the way from New Haven to the big ‘ol city.” Angel continued to pace on the bench, her taunting smile spread across her muzzle.

He grins, watching her walk around. He’d almost forgotten just how cute she was, almost. He looks up at her, his tail wagging. “Ya want a welcome? • Oliver: So when are we gonna eat?
  • Dodger: We?
  • Oliver: Yeah. I'm starvin'.
  • Dodger: Listen, kid. I hate to break it to ya, but the dynamic duo is now the dynamic *uno*.
  • Oliver: What do ya mean?
  • Dodger: What I mean is, our partnership is herewith dissolved.
  • Oliver: But, wait! Wait. You're not being fair!
  • Dodger: Fares are for tourists, kid. Consider it a free lesson in street savoir faire from New York's coolest quadruped.

  • Dodger: Picture the city. 8th and Broadway. The crowd's hustling. The traffic's roaring. The hot dogs are sizzling.
  • Einstein: I love a story with food in it.
  • Dodger: Enter Dodger, one bad puppy. Not just out for himself, but community minded. But he's not alone. Enter the opposition. A vicious, ugly, psychotic monster. Gleaming claws, dripping fangs, and nine lives, all of them hungry. He came at me, his eyes burning. I knew my time had come. Suddenly...
  • [Oliver falls from the roof, spooking everyone]
